Press Event: Immigration Advocates and Lawmakers Call for Passage of the "Fairness to Freedom Act"

On May 22, 2024, the Vera Institute of Justice, the National Partnership for New Americans, and members of the Fairness to Freedom campaign, joined U.S. Representatives Norma Torres, Grace Meng, Robert Garcia, and Daniel Goldman for a joint press conference to urge #Congress to pass the #FairnessToFreedomAct, a bill to establish a federal right to legal representation for all people facing deportation.

The Fairness to Freedom Act would establish a universal right to federally funded representation for anyone facing deportation, and help ensure that nobody is forced to defend themself in immigration court alone, and that nobody is deported simply because they can’t afford a lawyer. #UniversalRepresentation #Uniting4URep
