A note about those loose PVC end-caps~
The end fittings were not cemented in place. Not all of these will have the same design. Those shown in this video had a ¾" mating surface where they would normally weld to a pipe. Since they were only being friction-fit in my case, these fittings were later replaced with a similar (but slightly longer) type that had a 1¼” mating surface. The longer fittings make more surface contact, and are thus harder to pop off.

A note about pop-off~
The weakest link breaks first. If excess pressure has to be released from a system somewhere, it's best to decide for yourself where that relief will be. In the official rules of septic systems, nowhere will you find it stated that you should permit a loose fitting somewhere. In fact, most inspectors would regard such an omission as a crime against the sanctity of their profession, if not a criminal safety infraction. Well, I'd let their say have its sway, as long as they were willing to pay for my replacement parts. As it stands, I'd just prefer to be alerted by having the cork shoot off in the yard whenever my drain field becomes due for a treatment. Check your leach-mound first: if you find it covered by blithely unaware playing children, then be sure to cement all of your fittings.

Silicone attachment~
Remember again that the weakest link breaks first. If the silicone bond between the PVC & the concrete does not give, but the friction bond does, the pressure will then be relieved by water gently spurting out from underneath. This case is both desirable and not; the good is that the end-cap isn't shot out and into the cosmos, but the bad is that there will now be a lifted up concrete part and a sewery washout. As such, those of us without access to municipal wastewater treatment are in a bit of a no-win situation. Just as the impartial doctor provides the overweight with their available options to choose from between unpleasant alternatives, it is my misfortune to tell you, fellow ruralite (bumpkin), that something about your leach field will eventually have to give somewhere, and you're going to choose where that will be likely to happen. Oh, and to you pacifists out there, negligent inaction becomes its own choice. There was even a 'Rush' song about something like that.
