The 2024 Ford F-150 has been unveiled with a focus on the finer details. At first glance, it might be challenging to differentiate this refreshed model from its predecessor. However, upon closer inspection, one can notice the updated styling at the front and the introduction of Ford's new Pro Access Tailgate at the rear. Inside, the truck retains a familiar layout but surprises with new colors and technological features. The front face of the 2024 F-150 remains recognizable, but there are subtle changes, especially with the redesigned headlights that now feature LED strips forming a C-shape. The bumper has also been redesigned with C elements and rectangles. The grille styles remain specific to each trim, but they now blend seamlessly into the headlights, creating a "coast-to-coast" design.
The Pro Access Tailgate is perhaps the most significant update. This feature is Ford's answer to the innovative tailgates from competitors like Ram, Chevrolet, and GMC. The tailgate has a swing-out door in its center and can open in three increments, allowing for easier access to the truck bed. There's also a new storage box behind the passenger wheel, and if the Power Boost system isn't chosen, another storage box appears on the driver's side.
The Pro Access Tailgate, however, isn't standard across all models. It's part of a $1,620 Bed Utility Package for the Lariat and Tremor trims and comes standard on the higher trims. The base model remains the XL, but there's a new Platinum Plus trim that takes the place of the Limited as the luxury flagship. Ford has also made changes to the engine lineup. The 3.3-liter V6 has been dropped, making the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 the standard engine. This engine offers 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Other engines, including the 5.0-liter V8, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and the hybrid powertrain, remain unchanged for 2024. The F-150 Raptor R retains its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, but Ford hints at a power boost, with details to be revealed later.
In terms of technology, the 2024 F-150 introduces an optional heads-up display. All models now come with standard 12-inch driver and center touchscreens. LED headlights are standard, and Ford has included ten driver-assist systems in the base package. The operating system is Sync 4, and the updated BlueCruise version 1.2 offers hands-free lane changes and enhanced lane-keeping capabilities. There's also a new feature where exterior cameras can display two views at once on the center screen, depending on the driving mode selected. For security, Ford introduces the Stolen Vehicle Services, a system that can alert the owner of potential theft and contact authorities within 30 seconds. Another safety feature, the Exit Warning, alerts occupants to approaching vehicles or pedestrians.
Aesthetically, the 2024 F-150 introduces new colors and wheel packages. Ford has opted for a food-themed approach with colors like Smoked Truffle exclusive to the Platinum Plus trim and Medium Dark Smoked Truffle with mushroom tones for other trims. The F-150 Raptor and Tremor models receive a new modular front bumper that can be customized with Ford Performance upgrades. The Raptor also gets new dual-valve Fox shocks and an exclusive Shelter Green exterior color. For those who prefer a darker aesthetic, Ford offers various black appearance packages.
Pricing for the 2024 Ford F-150 will be announced in the future. For context, the 2023 F-150 started at $35,830, but this included the now-discontinued 3.3-liter V6. With the 2.7-liter engine, the price was $37,715. The top-tier 2023 Limited model was priced at $85,650. Ford mentions that they have reduced the F-150 configurations by 90% without removing significant options, suggesting that more features might now be bundled into packages. More details will be available as the 2024 F-150's sale date approaches.
