Taiwan's ruling party DPP is framing the election as choice between democracy and dictatorship. The KMT argues its conciliatory approach will lower the risk of war. And the TPP sells itself as the voice of long-overlooked domestic concerns, while also offering a hand to Beijing. But as ever, looming over this democracy is the threat of Chinese attack. The fundamental question facing Taiwanese voters is who can best prevent that from happening.
