Over the past few years of travel around New Zealand we’ve discussed penguins in a vlog or two (or three), we’ve been to the right spots, shown up at the right time, waited, been patient and still never spotted penguins in the wild. So when we had a wedding in Hawkes Bay we checked out some of the best things to do in Napier and came across the Little Penguin Close Encounter at the National Aquarium of New Zealand and knew we had to check it out!
First up is Chambourcin Cottage, an ahhhmazing escape nestled out in the vines! Other than the minimal but homely feel we loved the location to a handful of vineyards in the area - you’ll see in the next vlog we jump on the included bikes and spend the day cruising around drinking wine! Then it was all about the close up encounter with the penguins, feeding them and observing them hanging out. It’s amazing to see the behind the work being done behind the scenes to take car of the little guys, rescuing them and helping them recover in all sorts of ways.
