Emperor Haile Selassie Welcomes African Leaders to the 10th OAU Summit | May 1973

Footage of Haile Selassie I, the Emperor of Ethiopia, welcoming African leaders gathering for the 10th summit of the OAU scheduled to commence on Saturday, May 26th 1973 in Addis Ababa.

Captured alighting from the aeroplanes in which they travelled are:

1. President William Tolbert of Liberia.

2. President Marien Ngouabi of the People's Republic of the Congo (Congo Brazzaville).

3. General Yakubu Gowon of Nigeria.

4. President Moussa Traore of Mali

5. President Idi Amin of Uganda.

In all, ten Heads of State of ten of the 41 member countries of the Organisation attended the summit.

General Amin arrived in military uniform wearing is the insignia of the Israeli paratroopers he was awarded after completing a course in Israel.

However, the policy declaration later pledged OAU members to "effectively and actively support the Arab liberation of the occupied territories resulting from the Israeli aggression in June 1967."
