Today we're discussing the Hungarian residency by investment program, which will give you access to the EU and the Schengen zone.
You can maintain this residency without a minimum stay requirement, which is amazing! In order to qualify you'd need to form a company and buy two properties in Hungary.
This program is quite unique because you don't actually need to live in Hungary or pay taxes in order to maintain your residency. Most other EU residency programs will require you to spend at least 6 months per year in the country, which will trigger taxes. It is not the case here.
This residency by investment program may be a better option than Portugal or Greek residency by investment programs, because of the amount of money you'd need to put in.
But what about obtaining Hungarian citizenship at one point? Well, this is where things get tricky. You'd actually NEED to physically spend time in the country in order to qualify, you'd need to live there for at least 8 years, and you'd need to pass a language test, which is not easy at all!
So, if you're looking for a second passport this may not be the easiest option, but if you want to have an EU residency without any commitments this program is something that is definitely worth considering.
