Today is Vaikunta ekadesi, a very special day on which it is believed that one who fasts ( doesn't consume rice ) is said to attain Vaikunta. This song Sri ranganatha Guru Sevai kaana is composed by Shri Bharathi Ganesh in the ragam Arabhi Ragam.
On this auspicious day, in the temple of Shri Ranganathar at Srirangam , Tiruchirapalli it is celebrated on a grand scale and it is the only day when the SorgaVasal or the Paramapada Vasal is open and devotees are allowed to enter. It is said that people who goes through this Vasal will attain Vaikuntam. Lord Ranganathar is dresssed in an armour of diamonds (Rathnangi) and blesses all his devotees . It is also celebrated in a similar manner in Tirupathi where devotees enter the Vaikunta Dwaram and have darshan of Lord Balaji.
