In today's video, my son and I venture out on a Moose Hunt! It was a long time coming, but I'm glad the Day had come. We got up one early morning, and set out on the boat to get us a moose. I'm so glad my son was with me on this adventure. We had gone on several hunting trips, and a couple of moose hunts, but nothing like this!
As Indigenous people, we have been privileged to hunt at will in our Treaty Land territories. We hunt for the meat to fill our freezers & tummys or distribute to friends and family. Hunting for moose has always been in our culture and a means of survival for our people - the Ojibway. I am glad I get a chance to pass on those experiences and knowledge down to my son.
The Hunt took place in northwestern Ontario, Lac Seul First Nation, Treaty 3 Territory. We hopped in the boat and headed towards Vaughn Lake - a hotspot for fishing! We set out early that morning because we knew the fishermen were coming! On our way, we saw - not just one - but 4 moose!! Sorry we couldn’t capture video footage for all of them. We went after the one closests and easiest to fire upon.
