Brent details the backstory of this original tune:
"In 2006, I lost my job at the start of a nationwide recession. I had bills, a mortgage, a small family to support, and very little in savings. Willing to take any job that would help me provide, I found myself living in a crappy apartment in a college town a few states away from home while my wife and 18-month-old daughter Jane stayed back in California.

I brought very little with me, just what I could fit in a single suitcase and my acoustic guitar. The first few months were hard, and the next few months were suffocating. I would get a phone call every time baby Jane had a new “first.” I was a proud dad, but it tore me apart for missing it. I dreamt about hopping on a bus, or train, or jet to go home and visit them, but I couldn’t afford any travel as every extra dollar was sent back home.

This song was written in those months that I had to be away from the two people I wanted to be with the most - convinced that I was doing the noble thing by providing for them financially, while slowly coming to understand the much deeper value of staying close to those you love."
