Paralysis in the arm also known as hemiparesis is a common effect of a stroke or brain injury. One of the most important rules to follow is to never pull on a weak arm. This can overstretch the connective tissue and either lead to or aggravate shoulder and arm pain.

Amy Jo Rohe, MSOT, OTR/L, CBIS, Occupational Therapist at Brooks Rehabilitation, specializes in neurologic rehabilitation. In this video, she walks through the most recommended way to assist someone who deals with paralysis following a brain injury or a stroke.
