In the face of a radical shortage of organ donors in Korea, AMC has for the first time achieved a remarkable one-year record of over 300 kidney transplants.
This was the first time in Korea that a single institution performed 300 kidney transplants in a single year. The record-making 300th transplant, performed by Dr. Duck-Jong Han of AMC's kidney transplantation team.

It is a matter of high regard that we have performed so many living donor kidney transplants this year. It shows that our team has truly earned our patients' trust. We hope to match or surpass this record next year, as well as pass other notable milestones.
Of the 300 transplants, 81% involved kidneys from living donors, while the remaining 19% came from brain-dead donors.
Notably, the number of ABO-incompatible transplantations was found to be rising every year, such as the case of the 300th patient, in which the donor and recipient had incompatible blood types.
In terms of graft survival rates, outstanding results were also achieved. For patients in the first year following kidney transplants, the one-year graft survival rate was 98%, while the five-year rate was 95%.
The kidney transplantation team perform a total of 340 surgeries by the end of 2012, an increase of 33% over last year. This achievement will inscribe a new chapter to organ transplantation history not just in Korea, but in Asia as a whole.
