Billy Loomis was the boyfriend of Sidney Prescott, and the trendsetter of the Ghostface mask, but did you know he's based off a real life criminal?

WE ALL GO A LITTLE MAD SOMETIMES. Son of Henry and Nancy Loomis, Billy was a psychotic, movie obsessed revenge seeker who sent the town of Woodsboro, California into a frenzy.
Billy was inspired by horror movie icons like Norman Bates, Michael Myers and Christine Hargensen. Even his name comes in a long lineage of horror movie characters such as Sam Loomis from Psycho and Dr. Loomis from Halloween.
Screenwriter Kevin Williamson modeled the character after the Gainesville Ripper, a criminal in 1990 who similarly reciprocated a relationship with the media through his crime spree. Billy's character opens up a bigger conversation about bad behavior in movies and the correlation, if any, to bad behavior in real life, which is one of the many aspects of his character I'll be analyzing in this video.
For this analysis, I'll be considering the Scream movies to be canon, as well as the promotional websites for Scream 3.
