Daylily Seed Pods | How to Add to Your Daylily Bed Without Buying More

If you've ever seen a seed pod on a daylily and wondered what it is or how to get the seeds, this is the video for you!

This video is the updated version of an older one we also have on our channel. In this one, we go into depth about what daylily seed pods are, how to retrieve and plant the seeds, and how long you can expect to wait before you see bloom.

Here at the farm, unless we are hybridizing or have an especially valuable or rare daylily plant, we usually don't plant the seeds. We let them fall naturally.  We don't rely on seeds to increase our stock. We do that by dividing the plant or planting proliferations (if it is a proliferating variety).

Something to consider: Some daylily seeds require stratification in order to bloom. Others don't. Unless you know the genetic lineage of the parent plant, you really don't know whether a seed will bloom without stratification or not. Therefore, it's generally  considered to be a good rule of thumb to stratify all daylily seeds before planting. When it comes to daylily plants, bigger is better! All of the plants we ship will be three fans or larger — two or three times (or more) what you might receive from other companies. Larger plants get established faster and produce more blooms quicker.

All of your plants will be freshly dug when you order. The leaves are trimmed and the plants are washed and air-dried. Your daylilies will be out of the ground less than 48 hours before they’re headed your way.
