Rock-Fill Testing Along the Main Dam at Chimney Hollow Reservoir

Crews in April began placing material at one of the rock-fill portions of the main dam, marking another construction milestone at Chimney Hollow Reservoir. This initial rock-fill effort was done as part of an assessment to monitor how rock from the quarry and soil-moisture content, among other variables, will interact along the foundation of the dam. These assessments also provided an opportunity to examine the equipment and various procedures that will be used during construction of the rock fill portions of the main dam.

While the primary purpose of the recent rock-fill operations was to conduct assessments, this test section will remain in place as part of the main dam, so it represents the first completed rock-fill portion of the main dam.
