To Sign the Petition: www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/clim… Bonnie "Prince" Billy sings "Black Captain (For Peter Willcox)." Willcox, the Greenpeace Arctic 30 ship captain currently charged with piracy and "hooliganism" for his role in a peaceful protest again an oil rig in the Russian Arctic, was granted bail last week after two months in "pre-trial detention" in Murmansk and St. Petersburg, Russia. He still has not been allowed to leave Russia to see his wife and two daughters, and there is no date set for his trial. Bonnie "Prince" Billy is the stage name of Will Oldham, "one of the country's most celebrated singer-songwriters." (www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/01/05/090105fa_fa…) Peter Willcox grew up on the water in South Norwalk, Connecticut. He started sailing for the environment in 1973 on the Clearwater, the boat started by folksinger Pete Seeger. Willcox has been involved in Greenpeace for over 30 years, and he has skippered Greenpeace ships since 1981. He was the captain on the first Rainbow Warrior that was bombed in New Zealand by the French secret service in 1985. Oldham revised "Black Captain" from the original. This version ends: "When he'd disappeared into hazard I'd feared I was now meant to sail on my own There is a place on the open sea You will say it is like any other It has an air of importance to me As it waits for the hull of my brother It had been my thought that the power he got Couldn't be there without what I gave him And now I find a good part of my mind Will be worthless unless I help save him He ain't here ain't here I can't handle this lack And now I Want my captain back"
