If you want to try growing stone fruits from seed (peaches, plums, nectarines, cherries, etc.) You can do it! Open the pit from your favorite stone fruits and plant them! Just gently crack the pit on its side with a hammer. Be careful not to hit it too hard or you risk damaging the seed. And be careful not to hit your fingers!

Some pits won't have a seed or will have a shriveled unviable seed. This can happen because most stone fruit are harvested under ripe (before developing viable seeds), so that they are firm enough to make it to grocery store shelves. You may get lucky though with store bought fruit! You can get viable seeds. You may even find multiple seeds in one pit. (Polyembryony)
