Inverkip railway station stands on the Inverclyde Line to Wemyss Bay. It was originally opened in 1865 by the Greenock and Wemyss Bay Railway. In 1903 it was extensively improved with double track, two platforms and a fine station that had an arts and crafts feel about it like Wemyss Bay Station. In 1967 it was electrified and singled with the second tunnel to the west being abandoned. In 2012 it was rebuilt with a single platform and a passenger lift linked to a pedestrian overbridge.
