I discuss with Prof. Anandaroop Bhattacharya some burning issues on the employability of Indian engineering graduates and on the job market. Currently, a faculty member in the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Kharagpur and formerly senior professional at Intel, General Motors, General Electric, Prof. Bhattacharya has had a unique combination of extensive experience in both industry and academia. We first discuss the statistics available on student enrollment in various engineering courses in India. Then we discuss the important question: What should engineering graduates from non-CS and non-IT departments like Mechanical and Civil do to face the job market where there is a predominance of requirement in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Machine Learning and so on.
