How the HUCK® BobTail® Lockbolt Works

The HUCK® BobTail® lockbolt from Howmet Fastening Systems was developed to overcome weaknesses in standard bolts. It has succeeded in significantly reducing assembly time.



The HUCK® BobTail® works like this: The two parts to be joined are placed over the hard bolt. Now the softer locking ring is placed on top. A deformation sleeve then presses on the locking ring, which is successively pressed into the notches of the harder bolt. The pressing force is variable, depending on how much the diameter of the bolt is increased. The tensile strength, on the other hand, depends on the shear resistance of the lock ring material and the number of notches.


Installation is extremely fast. In addition, there is no material waste because BobTail® has no breakaway section.
