Today, on our 2014 Chevrolet Express, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Hopkins plug-in simple wiring kit with the 4-pole flat trailer connector. Part number is 41155. To the run the test on the plug, all we need is a standard test light. To test our ground, we can connect our ground clamp right to that. The first wire over from that ground wire should be a brown wire. What we're looking for is a constant signal with our running lights turned on.

Next, we'll have them turn on the driver side blinker. That should give us a flashing signal from the yellow wire. Then our opposite side blinker, the passenger side should be the same signal from the green wire. Finally, we'll have them step on the brakes. When that's done, we should get a constant signal from the green and the yellow.

All right, wiring's working just fine. Our kit's going to be really, very simple. We've got our plug-in to go into our factory trailer connector plug that will be underneath the back of the vehicle. Then here's our 4-pole flat trailer connector. We've got a dust cover that's going to go over that and protect it while it's behind the vehicle and it's also going to come with some contact grease. We can put that in here to keep those terminals protected, and also a couple zip ties to help get everything cinched up once we're done. Now, if we look underneath the vehicle here in the driver's side frame rail, we're going to have a couple plugs.

One's mounted almost right back at the back bumper. It's going to be rectangular, and that connects to a wire. This one wasn't connected to anything under here. Typically, it's going to be taped off somewhere up here and there's going to be a cover plug on it, this one just didn't have it, but it should be attached to that rectangular plug's wire and we should be able to follow that down and find our factory connector. What we want to do is in that connector, use a little bit of that contact or that terminal grease. If you want to buy extra, this is 11755 that I'm using, but it does come with the kit.

Once we've got that taken care of, all we need to do now is just slide our plug in. Give it a good squeeze, make sure it's connected and you should be able to pull on it without it coming out. There's this little safety clip that just slides down in. That's going to keep that button from being pushed. At this point, we'll just route it over to where we want it. I'm going to use my dust cover. Bring that right around my 4-pole connector. I'll just bring it around my safety chain connection point there. We'll clip that on and that'll keep it up out of the way until we need it. My personal preference, I don't like seeing the wires hanging out there, so I'm going to wrap those up with a little bit of electrical tape. For the rest of our wiring here, we just need to get it secured off. The hitch is a great location for that. Use a couple of zip ties to reach around there and cinch them down. We'll just trim off our excess. Now let's test our wiring out, make sure it's working properly. We'll be able to connect to our trailer and hit the road. That's going to complete our installation of the Hopkins plug-in simple wiring kit with 4-pole connector, part number 41155, on our 2014 Chevrolet Express van.
