Z-44 is the brand new premium tier 9 German destroyer in World of Warships and is based on A Type 1936B destroyer, armed with quintuple torpedo launchers and effective automatic anti-aircraft guns that were developed in the late 1930s. In 1941, the disadvantages of the Type 1936A destroyers, which had been designed prior to the outbreak of World War II, became apparent in Germany. Due to their poor sea keeping characteristics and the difficulty of servicing their 150 mm guns in rough seas, as well as the need to equip ships with more powerful anti-aircraft weaponry, 128 mm guns were brought back for subsequent ships of the series. The reworked project was designated 1936B. On February 17, 1941, the DeSchiMAG German shipbuilding company received the order to build a hull for destroyer Z-44. The following year, the ship was laid down at the Bremen dockyard. Finance for her construction was allocated by the Reichstag as part of their military expenditure, so the project's codename was changed to 1936B (Mob), which stood for "Mobilization." The destroyers of these projects were unified to the maximum possible extent, and were intended to serve in the Baltic Sea. Z-44 didn't have any fundamental distinctions in comparison to Z-35, Z-36, and Z-43, all of which had already been engaged in combat actions. At the same time, Germany was efficiently working on the development of high-performance AA guns. A quadruple-barreled 30 mm automatic gun, which considerably outperformed the traditional 20 mm AA gun in terms of its power, was intended to be one of them. The pace of construction was heavily delayed as a result of fleet construction priorities shifting in favor of submarines, while vital materials (copper, nickel, etc.) were in short supply. On July 29, 1944, the unfinished Z-44 was hit with several bombs during a heavy Allied air raid on Bremen. After that, finishing the ship was out of the question. Everything that could be salvaged for repairing other destroyers was de mounted from her. In World of Warships, IX Z-44 hasn't only received a new lease of life, she's also been upgraded. Instead of quadruple-tube torpedo launchers, the Tier IX destroyer is equipped with quintuple-tube ones that have a relatively short reload time and torpedoes with a decent range. Her AA defense composition has also been revamped: Z-44 carries quadruple-barreled 30 mm Flak 103/38 automatic guns that proved themselves to be highly efficient in battle. Did you enjoy the video?
