Parvathy Amma runs a small restaurant near Meenvellam falls in Palakkad district. It serves unlimited meals with a fish fry at just Rs. 50.00. This homely food is prepared and served by Parvathy Amma, an elderly lady in her late 80s. More than the taste of the food I enjoyed her friendliness and motherly love.

We started off from Kochi by around 4:30 in the morning and reached Meenvellam falls by 8:00. The waterfalls have an entry fee of Rs. 25.00 per head. I got two Food N Travel friends to guide me through the falls and the nearby places.
Tucked away from the buzzing streets of Indian cities, Meenvellam is quite a bit of lush nature. You need to walk a bit to see the waterfalls but a stroll through the forest is never tiresome. You get a chance to step in the water - ice-cold water that flows down from the mountains. It's humid, but the breeze is refreshing. Though the mini-hydroelectric project at Meenvellam reduced the actual waterfalls to a dribble, the ambiance has not compromised yet.
After Meenvellam falls, we visited Parvathy Amma's Kada (Parvathy Amma's Shop). It is, in fact, neither a shop nor a restaurant. It is her home; she lives with her grandson in that house. Well, she also cooks food for her living that she serves in her dining room.
