Ramalingeshwara and other group of temples located near Mulabagilu, Kolar district is a 10th century temple complex built by Nolamba dynasty.
I am at Avani Ramalingeshwara temple
From Kilar 30 kms and 13 kms from Mulabagilu. Now have taken right turn towards Avani from NH 75
Avani is not just a 100 years old. It has history from the time of Thretayuga . As per ASI also Avani has refernce in inscription from 4th century .
Avani is said to be the same Avantica mentioned in the puranas. But what I know is Ujjain was erstwhile Avantika . Let’s see what stories are there inside the village
It took 2 hours to reach here. On the way it was heavy traffic near whitefield
Now enetreing to the village. Ramalingeshwara temple is the main attraction. You can see many hillocks around. Let’s see what else is there inside.
Looks like it is inside the village. May be village has developed around the temple or temple was built in the centre of the village . Now we can see the temple
This is the temple complex. Built during 10th century by Nolamba dynasty . Let’s go inside .
This is mukhamantapa. We entered from here. The opposite temple is kamalshi and this is Subramanya swamy temple. As we walk next to it there are many temples
Now I am walking towards Ramalingeshwara temple
Here there are many people than I expected. Makings are made on the floor for social distancing. Even sanitizer is kept . This is under ASI
Nolambas who built the temple are true kannada rulers . They were feudeteries for Gangas and rashtrakutas .
This Avani is very rich both historically as well as mythologically. There are so many stories as if Uttara Ramayana happened here.
Ling established by Rama is Ramalingeshwara. Along with this temple Bharata , Lakshmana, Shatrughna and vali sugreeva lingeshwara is also there .
This is the main part of the temple. Left is Lakshmana lingeshwara , the center one is Ramalingeswara dedicated to Shiva and the right side one is Shatrughna lingeshwara.
Behind this is Bharateshwara. Here as well Garbhgriha, antarala and Navaranga is there. But videograph is not allowed
Inside beautifule carvings can be seen and Chola king’ who built these temples statue is also there. It is carved on black stone. Parvathi idol also can be seen . Outside alos you can see carvings .On Bhitti many statues can be seen. Even on Adhistana lion and keertimukha can be seen

It was initially built by Nolambas and then developed by Cholas and Vijayangars rulerws.

There is a story. Rama send sSita to forest and She takes shelter in Valmiki Ashrama here. Afterwards Sita gives birth to Lava and Kusha. When Rama sends Ashwamedha ygna horse , Lava and Kusha wil challenge Rama by holding the horses. We all know that Rama battles with Lava kush. As it is adharma to fight with own sons Valmiki suggests to install a linga and worship. Rama follows and hence the lina established by Rama. Similar way his entire family does
Another beauty about Nolamba style is jalandhra ow windows . From inside looks very small holes but from outside very beautiifu carvings. Wndow world of this temple is worth watching.My favourite relief .This is Lakshmaneshwara. Here are there is a linga and a nandi. All temples looks the same.In the center pillars and beautiful carvings of dance
Here Ashtadikpalakas are ornate . In the center Uma maheshwara and around 8 ashtadikpalakas on their vehicles . All have vehicles . Nairutti is having human being as his vehicle .
It is dravadian stye temple . It remind sBangalore’s begur temple. Compiund is built all around. Even though Shiva temple Vishnu and Krishna can be found.
This is Bharateshwara , this is not as beautiful as other temples. Ling is also small
Ceiling doesn’t have ashtadikpalakas , a lotus can be seen
There is a separate Nandi mantapa for Nandi. In other temples it is kept as part of the temple. Here it is separate even the size is bigger.
This temple is simple without any carvings
Vijayanagara emblem of varaha and the knife shows Vijayanagars rulers were here
Suramanya swamytemple pillars have carvings of sidds,and sages .
It is a maze inside the temple complex .
The hillock behind is called as Valmiki betta . Apparently Sita lived here and Lavakusha were born. I am going there . Let’s see what is there
