This is MY way of doing Tree braids. I created this technique and I  have been doing it this way for over 10 years. I am not saying there is anything wrong with other techniques, I am just showing you what I know and what I do. There is no right or wrong way, but if you would like to see Yaya's way, then stay tune. Please tag me if you use my work 😊

Color: 30 I believe

Packs used: 5 to 6 packs
*You can use less or more depending on thickness or the kind of curly or straight hair you use. You will clearly need more hair for straight hair for a better coverage.

*Black hair will look more natural, but the high contrast of her natural dark brown hair and the light braiding hair helps with the tutorial,

✨I have also used Human Hair to do this and it WORKS! It also has a more natural look to it. It is less affordable though 😂

This took me 4 to 5 hours but it CAN take way longer. Depending on the client, type of hair/cur pattern, coverage needed, and other factors. When I do my own hair, it can take 7 to 12+ hours.😩

✨P R O S✨
- Versatile
- Very Natural Looking *People mistake this for my real hair all the time. I use to get questions like "Is that your hair?".
- "Can be" a protective style
- Grows hair!
- Carefree and Lightweight
- Affordable
- Longevity
- Last a longtime "especially with curly hair"
- The older it gets, the BETTER IT LOOKS! *My hair can be 2 months old and I still get major compliments.

✨C O N S✨
- Can rip out hair if done to tightly or improperly
- Can accidentally cut off hair when taking them down if not careful
- Can NOT pull hair into a high ponytail without revealing braids unless you do a specific technique. *Please request if you would like to see that tutorial.

✨B A C K G R O U N D✨ "How I developed this technique"

Hey all,

I first taught myself how to braid when I was 7 years old by practicing braids and cornrows on my dolls hair. I taught myself how to micro-braid in 2004, my freshman year in high school. By my sophomore year, I had taught myself individuals tree braids, even though I didn't know it was called that LOL!

By my senior year, I started doing cornrow tree braids, and they were not called that then either lol! My aunt t saw my hair and told me that they are called tree braids and that she knew people who did it up in New York. However, she said she has NEVER seen anyone do it like I do it.

After that, I have done friends, coworkers, family; sister, aunt T, etc. hair as well as my own. It was difficult because I redid my hair every 2 weeks 😅 You can ask anyone lol! Also, the technique for doing my hair is WAY different from doing someone else's hair.  If you would like to see that tutorial comment down below.

At one point, I got tired of doing hair so I stopped taking clients. However, I still do my sister's, aunt t's, and occasional friends hair. My aunt and sister get their hair done every 2 to 4 months. They take it down and I do it again. This has been going on for years! Even when I big chopped in 2013, I would still do their hair.

In 2010, I got a texurizer that severely damaged my hair. I used tree braids consistently to transition back to natural before I big chopped in 2013. Tree braids can be used as a protective style BUT can rip out your hair if done incorrectly or too tightly. Also, removing tree braids can cause issues if you don't know how. You can accidentally cut your hair.

All in all, I hope this background helps you understand my connection with tree braids. I know my channel is mostly natural hair and DIY's but tree braids have been apart of my life and STILL is a huge part of my life, so I wanted to share with you all. I hope you find it helpful. Please leave any questions or concerns in the comment section below.

Best,
Yaya
