The village in North East England is the location of the country's only fortified bridge and some cracking traditional British pubs.

Warkworth Castle dominates the high ground above the village. The castle dates from the 12th century and occupies a loop in the River Coquet. It was a significant fortification during the Anglo-Scottish Wars of the Middle Ages. It's one of several castles in Northumberland that are easily accessible by visitors.

Along with the nearby Warkworth Hermitage, the castle is today managed English Heritage. The castle is one of many family-friendly tourist attractions in northeast England. It's also a great place for history buffs to spend time.
