Throughout history and the centuries, there were many execution methods used to kill a condemned person or someone who was sentenced to death. Some of the most shocking methods including burning at the stake, and also hanging, drawing and quartering. Many of these executioners who carried out these brutal killings were skilled men who were appointed by the King to conduct executions. But there were some who have gone down in history for being terrible at their jobs, and of carrying out horrific botched executions. There was one who operated during the reign of King Charles II inside of London, who became known for being possibly the worst executioner in history.

Jack Ketch would perform two very high profile executions in front of thousands, and these in particular were performed so poorly that he was almost killed by the crowd. The executions of Lord Russell, and in particular James Scott, the Duke of Monmouth were performed by axe and Ketch was tasked with taking off their heads. However each time it took a number of swings of the axe to do this, and in James Scott's execution, Ketch swung a number of times and at one point gave up as Scott was still alive after several swings. This shocked the crowd so much that a riot almost broke out, and it was said that Ketch would also have been placed on the executioners block, such was the outrage.
