In this episode of Talks With Bassem, I speak with eminent Egyptian psychiatrist, physician, feminist, novelist, and advocate of women's rights Nawal El Saadawi.

Nawal has led a truly amazing life. She is a fearless commentator on women's rights who has had a major global influence on many people’s lives. In her fight for Egyptian women's social and intellectual freedom, she was jailed in 1981 for alleged “crimes against the state” due to her outspoken views. In spite of her imprisonment, she continued to fight against oppression and her works shaped the discourse on women’s liberation in the Arab world.

She has been on the cover of Time Magazine, recognised as a part of the 100 women of the year.
