Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this TOWSMART Towing Starter Kit for two-inch hitches, with a two-inch ball and a 5,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this starter kit will contain the basic components needed for towing. The ball mount with the hitch ball, and a hitch lock. The ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle.
The shank portion right here is what will slide into your vehicle's two-inch hitch receiver, and the ball platform provides this two-inch hitch ball for connecting to your trailer coupler. Now the nice thing of the shank on this is a XMount Design. You can see it, the cross sections sort of have an X design to it. What the reason they do that it has indentations on all the sides here, and that's to help channel weighing any moisture or dirt to keep it from building up inside your hitch, prevent a ball mount from seizing in the hitch. This does offer both a drop and a rise position.
You would have to dismount the ball and reattach it if you go in the rise position.And the drop and rise positions are available to ensure level towing. The drop it'll give you, if you measure from the top over here, or the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. So it's going to give you a two inch maximum drop. And in the rise position from here to here, it's going to give you 3/4 inch maximum rise. Now this also comes with this hitch receiver lock right here.
This will help prevent theft of your ball mount or your hitch mount accessories. It does have a nice watertight dust cap on it to help prevent corrosion of your lock cylinder.Two keys are included. It is a 5/8 inch pin diameter. Overall length on the lock itself, one end to the other, is 5-1/8 inches, and the usable link, which is the portion inside here, is going to be right at 2-3/4 inches. It does come with the two keys.
Again, you just put a key in there, and you just twist it 1/4 of a turn, and it'll unlock it. And put it back on, 1/4 of a turn and it locks it. At the end of this video, I am going to put this into a hitch receiver and show you how everything works. This does meet the J684 towing safety regulations.You can see it has a nice black powder coated ball mount and a chrome-plated hitch ball and lock for corrosion resisting. We mentioned the pin diameter is 5/8 of an inch. So it does fit this hitch. Pin hole, diameter of 5/8 of an inch. Application is for 2' x 2' trailer, hitch receiver. Gross towing weight capacity is 5,000 pounds. Tongue weight capacity is 500 pounds. We mentioned the ball size diameter of two inches. Overall length from here to the farthest edge at the back here, if we put a ruler on it, it's going to be right at 12-3/4 inches, and then a measurement of the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball is right at eight and a half inches.So what we're going to do is let me go ahead and pull up this 2' x 2' hitch receiver opening here. So you can see you can take your ball mount and you just slide it in there. Once you get your hole lined up, then you go ahead and take your lock. We'll go ahead and unlock it. And then you just slide that through your hitch pin hole. Once it gets to the other side, go ahead and put your lock on there, turn it, and now it's locked into place. Nobody would be able to remove this from your hitch. You're all ready to go. And then when you want to remove it, just go ahead and take your key, turn it 1/4 of a turn, remove it, put it back together. Oops. And then all you have to do is slide this out. And again, if you want to use it in the rise position, you would just insert it this way, but you would have to turn the ball over.But that should do it for the review on the TOWSMART Towing Starter Kit for two inch hitches, with a two inch diameter ball and a 5,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.
