How to bait up with peeler crab for shore fishing.
I am going to show you how to prepare a peeler crab for fishing.
This is how I prepare peeler crab for fishing bait when I’m shore fishing.
First remove the top shell. This should come away quite easily when the crab is moulting.
Then remove the shell from underneath. Don’t worry if you can’t get every bit of shell off. I'm sure the fish don’t mind a little bit of shell.
Once you’ve got the shell off use your scissors to cut half way through the crab (not all the way through unless you only plan to use half the crab)
Next make the crab into the shape of a tube and slide it on the hook like you would a Rag worm.
Simple secure your crab to the hook using bait elastic.
Make sure your hook point is not masked and you’re done.
Tips for Storing Live Peeler Crab At Home.
If you are storing your peeler crab at home the best place for them is in your fridge.
Your crabs will last longer if you can give them a little bit of salt water in the bottom of the tub you are keeping them in from the beach or river where they came from.
If you find that your peeler crab are difficult to peel get a few sheets of newspaper and dampen it down under your kitchen tap and place over the top of your crabs in the fridge it should help them along.
If you find and popped crabs (starting to come out of their shell’s) you should peel that crab and use it as soon as possible or freeze it.
If you plan on freezing your left over peeler crabs they keep best if you peel them first by removing all the legs and claws, removing all the shell, taking out the lungs and wrapping the crabs individually in clingfilm.
Don’t throw away the crabs legs they make excellent small baits for flounder or lrf fishing.
Peeler crab is a very good sea fishing bait I don’t think there is a fish that swims in our waters that wouldn’t take a juicy peeler crab bait.
