दुनियाभर समय-समय पर भीषण नरसंहार और युद्ध होते
रहे हैं। इसके चलते हजारों लाखों लोगों ने अपनी जान
गवाई साथ ही साथ प्राकृतिक आपदाओं ने भी कई बार
अपने तांडव से भारी तबाही मचाई जिनको देखने सुनने
वाला कोई संगठन नहीं था पर जब युद्धों का सिलसिला
बंद नहीं हुआ। तब स्विट्जरलैंड के Henry Dunant ने
काम किया जिसने मानव सेवा की नई राह खोल दी। Henry
ने देखा कैसे हजारों लोगों की जान जा रही है और
पीडितो के पास किसी भी प्रकार की मेडिकल सुविधा
का इंतजाम नहीं है इलाज नहीं होने के कारण लोग तड़प
तड़प कर अपनी जान देने को मजबूर हैं। ऐसे में उन्होंने 1863 में
