I beamed as I approached
I beamed as I approached my friends with my latest math quiz, an A+ shining at the top.
"Can you believe these algebra problems? They're like puzzles waiting to be solved!"
One friend smirked, "Keep this up, and you'll be the next Einstein."
Another pal chimed in, "Speaking of Albert Einstein, did you hear about his brother, Frank Einstein? He was a monster. Get it? Frank-Einstein."
We all laughed, enjoying the moment. But little did I know, things were different back at home.
As I reached home, I overheard voices from the living room.
"That boy's always buried in his books and projects. He's old enough to work, you know. We could use the extra money,” my stepdad David grumbled.
Mom argued back. “He's just a kid, David! Let him focus on his studies.”
David said, "We don't need a genius in the house, just someone who pulls their weight."
My heart thudded louder with each word they exchanged. Quietly, I snuck off to my room, hoping no one noticed.
