The Korean National Assembly election will be held on April 10, 2024. It will be held simultaneously with the by-election in the first half of 2024. Unless relevant laws are amended, the right to vote and be elected is given to Korean citizens over the age of 18 until April 11, 2006.

It is a midterm election that will determine the future state affairs of the President Yoon Seok-yeol, which will be held approximately two years after President Yoon Seok-yeol's inauguration. The People Power Party, the ruling party, seeks to gain momentum for state affairs, the main opposition Democratic Party, the Democratic Party of Korea, seeks to maintain its ability to keep the government in check, and progressive political parties, such as the Green Justice Party and the Progressive Party, seek to take the lead in progressive forces, and third parties such as the New Reform Party, etc. It appears that regional parties will compete to increase their power.

Since the 7th National Simultaneous Local Elections in 2018, people will be able to vote without a mask in a national election for the first time in six years.

As a side note, this is the first general election to be held on an even numbered day in 32 years since the 14th general election in 1992.

As the election is held just one month before President Yoon Seok-yeol's second anniversary in office, it will be an important point that will determine the driving force of future state affairs. Depending on the outcome of the election, it will be determined whether Han Dong-hoon and Lee Jae-myung, the leaders of both parties and leading presidential candidates, will fall out of the race, so it is expected to have an impact on the structure of the 21st presidential election.

Typically, the second year of a term is a time when the honeymoon period is over and the ruling party is gaining power, so if the People Power Party achieves satisfactory results in this election, it will be able to breathe easier in running state affairs for the remaining period, and if it loses, it will become the main opposition party. If the Democratic Party of Korea wins, it will weaken the power of the Yoon Seok-yeol government in state affairs. As the ruling party, the People Power Party, won the 8th national simultaneous local election and secured a large amount of organizational power, it was expected that the situation in this general election would be slightly favorable to the ruling party, the People Power Party. However, the fact that the approval rating was recorded at 24% after less than a year in office, the current approval rating is not higher than that of other governments, the ruling party approval rating is low, and the opposition party approval rating is relatively high are likely to be variables.

However, Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating plummeted from the beginning of his term due to a series of mistakes, personnel issues, and diplomacy. It was a dead cross two months after the local elections.

Even if they have an advantage in organizational power, there are many cases where they have been judged unfairly when they lose public support, and they tend to rely more on wind than organizational power, so it is unclear to what extent the organizational power gained in local elections will be effective.
During this period, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, was suspended from his duties as party leader due to various controversies, and the non-representative system was replaced by the representative Kim Ki-hyun system.
