Points covered in this video:-

Question. When a concave mirror is placed facing the sun, the sun’s rays converge to a point 10 cm from the mirror. Now, if you place a 2 cm long candle flame 20 cm away on the principal axis of the mirror, where would you place a screen to obtain the image of the candle? What would be the size of the image? Draw a ray diagram to justify your answer?
Solution. As sun’s rays converge to a point 10 cm from the concave mirror, therefore, focal length of mirror f = -(10)cm. Now,
h1 = 2 cm, u = -20 cm, v =?
From,
1/v + 1/u = 1/f
1/ v = 1/f - 1/u
1/v = 1/(-10) - 1/(-20)
1/v = -1/20
v = -20 cm
As, h2/h1 = -v/u = - (-20/-20) = -1
h2 = -h1 = -2 cm
Minus sign is for inverted image. The course of ray is as shown in figure
A’B’ is real, inverted image of AB at C only.

Question. It is desired to obtain an erect image of an object using a concave mirror of focal length 12 cm.
What should be the range of object distance in this case?
Will the image be smaller or larger than the object/ draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image in this case.
Where will the image of this object be, if it is placed 24 cm in front of the mirror?
