The Irish in the 1921 England & Wales Census - Brian Donovan

There were over 360,000 Irish born people living in England & Wales in 1921 reflecting the ongoing migration out of Ireland in search of work and opportunity. Approximately 80% of all Irish emigrants in 1921 travelled to Britain, and the majority were women. Their story is an important part of the 1921 census returns for England & Wales. But there were also millions of descendants of those impoverished Irish famine migrants that had settled in Britain in the 19th century and earlier.
