Did you ever wonder how this party got started?  Why do millions of people travel from all around the globe to participate in a wild week long party? I have seen firsthand why. Video 111

Tonight we celebrated Carnival along the beach at Farol da Barra in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It was a fun, safe, family event put on by a local family. Jeanna made this little speaker truck called a Bloquinho Piriguete 3x5 and for the last 5 years has thrown her own private carnival party with friends and family.
Carnival is the biggest week long party in the world. It is an annual Brazilian festival held around February or March. Originally, Carnival started as a food festival, because it was the last time to eat lavishly before beginning Lent, the period of 40 days before Easter.
The Portuguese brought mascaraed balls from Europe and the Brazilians added their rhythms, music and dance moves. Over time musical styles, customs and culture merged and expanded. To create one of the most unique, vibrant, colorful, lively celebrations in the world.  People from all over come together and fill multiple brazilian city streets with, singing, dancing, music, costumes and laughter.
Now, Carnival is the most famous holiday in Brazil with millions of foreigners and Brazilians participating each year. This is our families second carnival and we can’t get enough. It is an exciting cultural experience. I love that Brazilians old and young participate with so much joy and energy.  I love the spirit of Carnival and how it brings people together.

Here is a special story from Jeanna, the party host. I love her meaning of Carnival. She writes…

When I was little my family had an Escola de Samba (carnival group) in the interior of Bahia! My grandma’s house was full of friends and family in Carnival.  We had a great time! My mom and other women use to make the clothes, for the party and I loved that energy,
As a fashion designer those memories give me the feeling of how to create things...
I decided to repeat that party in my house, about 5 years ago, because Carnaval has changed a lot in the past 25 years... became something so big, and full of big trucks and shows, that lost the magic of before.
Now again meeting people, dressing up and going to the streets. Simple, Colorful, Shine.  A perfect excuse to meet friends, get dressed for Carnaval, enjoy the streets and be creative...
We live in the carnival land, and we should be part of it.

We moved our family of 7 from Nevada, USA to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.  We came to experience Brazilian culture, learn Portuguese and start a business.
