The Battle of Stalingrad began
The Battle of Stalingrad began on August 23rd, 1942 and ended on February 2nd, 1943. It was one of the largest battles to ever happen in history and claimed the lives of more than 2 million people. The battle would also serve as the major turning point on the Eastern Front, resulting in the Soviet Union forcing Nazi Germany to fight a mostly defensive war.
