In this video, cleaning expert, Melissa Maker, shows us how to clean window sills and window tracks - that build up of grime is so unattractive, but easily handled with a quick cleaning.  Cleaning window sills used to be a wrist-twisting job, but now we can clean them quickly and easily!

Sandi asked: What's the best way to clean my window sill tracks?

Answer:

What you need-
1) Dirty window sill
2) Cleaning toothbrush
3) Spray bottle filled with water
4) Microfibre cloth
5) Vacuum (optional)
6) Drop of dish soap or 1 tablespoon baking soda (optional)

Optional: Start by vacuuming (using the nozzle attachment/crevice tool) to remove large debris- it takes a few seconds and makes all the difference.

Optional: Put a drop of dish soap or 1 tablespoon of baking soda to the spray bottle for extra cleaning power.

Spray the window sill with water and let it sit for a few minutes. Using a cleaning toothbrush, brush the window sill track to lift off any caked on debris. Once you've thoroughly brushed the area, take a microfibre cloth and wipe the remaining residue. If you wrap the cloth around your finger, you can get into corners and scratch off any excess dirt easily.

* BONUS TIP*

For mold on your window sill:
Take a few drops of tea tree oil and add it to your spray bottle. Spray the window sill area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Use the cleaning toothbrush to breakdown the mold and wipe clean with a cloth. Re-treat the area using the tea tree solution to help inhibit mold growth. Please note: mold is the result of a moisture issue and should be dealt with as early as possible to prevent spreading.

FYI: If you live in colder climates and open your windows during only a few months, you can do this twice a year. If you live somewhere that allows windows to be open for most of the year, step up the frequency and do it quarterly.
