In the US, over 1,000 people sentenced as children are still serving life sentences in prison with no hope for parole. Inspired by the work of Bryan Stevenson, Milbank began working with the Equal Justice Initiative and the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights on numerous pro bono cases in this area, helping to secure new sentences for clients who were sentenced as children and deemed ineligible for parole.

This video tells the story of one of these clients, Edward Simms, who was granted parole and released from prison after spending over three decades incarcerated for burglaries he committed at the age of 16.  Hear his story, and learn how crucial pro bono support can be in juvenile life without parole cases.
