OMG PLEASE QUIT USING THIS METHOD. YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE WITH IT. PLEASE USE THIS METHOD INSTEAD: How To: Install Ubuntu on Chromebook ...
I'm not offering any support on this video. It's the WORST method for running Linux on a Chromebook. All it's doing is running Xubuntu in a virtual machine and it runs BOTH operating systems at the same time.

THIS VIDEO IS TO INSTALL A VERSION OF UBUNTU ALONGSIDE CHROMEOS.
IF YOU WANT TO REMOVE CHROMEOS, WATCH THIS VIDEO INSTEAD:

Please continue with THIS video if you want to have a dual-boot system.
THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR CHROMEBOOK.
If you want to do more with your Chromebook and install Ubuntu Linux on it, this tutorial should get you going.
You'll need to enable developer mode in order to do this, but once that is done, you only have to enter a couple of commands to get Ubuntu installed on your Chromebook.
You may be limited on what you can install if you have an ARM processor, but you can still follow along and complete the installation.
THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING FROM YOUR CHROMEBOOK.

The command you'll need to enter to begin the install when you are ready is:
sudo sh ~/Downloads/crouton -e -t xfce
The -e is for encryption. If you get an error message about decrypting xenial, start over and use this command instead:
sudo sh ~/Downloads/crouton -t xfce
Once the install is complete, you'll use this command to open Ubuntu:
sudo startxfce4
Cycle through Chromium OS and Ubuntu using Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Back and Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Forward.
