It is almost two years since Russia invaded Ukraine on the orders of President Vladimir Putin. War has been raging ever since. And there is no end in sight. But why not? How do wars actually end? Together with war researcher Tim Sweijs from The Hague Center for Strategic Studies (HCSS), we take a look at what we can learn from the past. Together with a colleague, Sweijs has looked at past wars and identified five factors that statistically influence wars and their end. In this video, we look at the five factors individually and examine how they apply to the war in Ukraine. Is the end really still a long way off or could the war in Europe be over sooner than we think?
