This lesson explains everything that you need to know about enlargement for Maths GCSE (Higher and Foundation.)
Here are the key points to remember:
- After an enlargement is applied to a shape the side lengths will be scaled by the scale factor but the angles will remain the same.
- To fully describe an enlargement you need to state the scale factor and the centre of enlargement.
- To find the centre of enlargement you need to draw lines that connect the corresponding vertices of two shapes together.
- To find the scale factor of an enlargement you need to divide the lengths of two corresponding sides.
- A negative scale factor will cause the shape to appear on the opposite side of the centre of enlargement.
We hope this helps!
