Siloxane Sealer Tips and Tricky Leak Fix

Masonry Sealer is a subject that can be confusing when trying to find out what to use, and if the stuff will really work. In my experience, the Siloxane sealers are dependable for their purpose when properly applied, and yes they do work. We find that many homes and businesses can benefit from having the bare brick walls on their buildings sealed every 10 years to keep moisture from penetrating the backside of the brick through the mortar. The sealers we recommend will have a natural look and shouldn't change the look of your brick. We like the Sherwin Williams Conflex 7% Siloxane sealer, and have used others that also work well. I only happened upon the sealers in my career as a roofer, when we would find these persistent leaks on properly flashed brick walls and chimneys. In most cases when the water is creeping into the wall and behind the flashing, the mortar not being mixed to the proper proportions in the first place, allowing for water entry. When nothing seems to stop the flashing areas from leaking, try some Siloxane sealer on the entire wall above the flashing, you might just be amazed at the results.
