Flavius Josephus (37 – c. 100 CE) was a first century priest, historian, general who initially fought against the Romans during the First Jewish–Roman War until he surrendered to Roman forces.
Josephus then defected to the Roman side and was granted Roman citizenship. He became an adviser, friend and translator of the emperors Vespasian and Titus. After the war he eventually settled in Rome where he wrote his histories. Josephus was an eyewitness to the major events of his day and is the primary source for the Jewish-Roman War and the destruction of Jerusalem and the fall of Masada.

This eight part lecture series will examine Josephus’ life in the context of his times through the reading of selections from his works.
