Baahubali-The Beginning, the epic war film is here and the outstanding film’s trailer was finally unveiled. Spotted at the trailer launch event at Mumbai today were film’s director S.S Rajamouli, its cast Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah, Anushka Shetty and film’s Hindi line-in producer Karan Johar.
At the event we saw Karan’s candid mannerisms and witty one-liners.
1. While getting the cast & crew onstage for the event, he spoke nonchalantly through a bar stool adjustment process; as Tamanah could barely sit comfortably thanks to a rather flouncy, long skirt. Karan was heard saying, ‘Ok you sit there, it will be easier with the Cinderella skirt’, causing many to titter. In the end of the Q&A with the media, when the heroine made a somewhat detailed thank you speech of sorts, K Jo joked, thanking her for taking over as master of ceremonies!
2. When asked by a journalist as to what did he learn from S.S Rajamouli, Karan said that what he has made up his mind on is that he should be judging fewer reality shows & making more films as a director.
3. While complimenting Rajamouli, Karan said that he is in awe of this director who could make a full length film based on a house fly (Eega in Telegu, & Makkhi in Hindi). He said that Rajamouli’s achievement becomes even more noteworthy in the context that often in Bollywood, filmmakers like himself go wrong while making a film with expensive superstars! In his signature sarcastic style, K Jo cocked a snook at Bollywood’s over hyped star vehicles.
4. Candidly, K Jo mentioned that in a year when Piku & Tanu Weds Manu Returns have done so well, it is clear as crystal that content rules over all, stars notwithstanding in films today. His statement seems to focus on the resounding failure of Bombay Velvet at the box office.
5. When asked why does Bollywood not mount a film on the scale of ‘Bahubali’, or ever produce epics of this kind, K Jo simply replied, ‘Because we don’t have a Rajamouli here’.
