The first step when fever is seen in kids is to give antipyretic. the parents should not wait for the doctor to see the child if the fever is more than 99 degrees. An antipyretic like paracetamol should be given in the correct dosing before visiting the doctor. If the fever is more than 101, the child should be immediately sponged with normal water (no ice water should be used) so that the temparature does not rise. The child should also be given lots of water so that he is not dehydrated..
