When you sign up for a new credit card, you need to make sure you are meeting the sign up bonus or welcome offer. Regardless of what you call it, by successfully hitting the minimum spend required to get it, you can get a ton of value in the way of points or miles! In this video, I provide all the tips and tricks you can use to help you meet that credit card sign up bonus.

The first thing you can do to meet your credit card welcome bonus is plan to get you new credit card around the time you will have big purchases coming up. I always believe before signing up for any card, you should plan out your spend to ensure you will hit the bonus. The last thing you would want is to miss out on the free points.

The second thing you can do to get your credit card sign up bonus is to pay your monthly/upcoming bills for the future. We all have monthly expenses that most likely could get payed in yearly increments. This is such an easy way to hit the bonus along without needing to stress if you've paid your bill for the month or not.

The third thing you can do to hit your credit card minimum spend is move up large purchases you will have in the future to now. A perfect example of this would be travel or buying gifts. If you know you'll need it for the future, buy it ahead of schedule!

The fourth thing you can do to get your credit card welcome offer is make purchases for your friends or family, which they would then pay you back for. Most likely someone will have a purchase coming up! As long as you are working with someone who has the money on hand and is financially responsible, you'll have no issue hitting your minimum spend.

The fifth tip is to add an authorized user on your card. This is a very similar idea to tip 4, but the only difference is that it is a physical card you could hand to someone. Potentially this could be a perfect way to even help boost someone else's credit score, if yours is already great! Although beware, because some authorized user cards can cost extra to get!

The sixth tip is to purchase items specifically to resell. This is different than gaming the system or manufactured spending because you are buying legitimate goods. Then selling them creates an additional transaction before you could get money to repay the credit card. I personally did this with sneaker reselling but it is definitely not consistent as winning those raffles is all luck based. I would apply this same thinking to other goods online, especially anything limited or desirable as your main goal is just to recoup your cost, but if you can also make some extra cash, why not!

The seventh tip is to pay your mortgage, taxes or rent with your credit card. This is commonly done if you have a rent management portal online or if you use a service like Plastiq. Although fair warning there may be an added fee for doing so, which may not make it worth while to do for most people, hence why it is almost last on our list! Additionally, it comes with stipulations and can be hard to set up, so I would only push you to do this, if the other tips didn't work for you.

As a bonus tip, tip eight would be to group spending with others when you go out to eat or shop. It's easy to forget about this simple tip, but if you are going out to eat, just pick up the tab and have everyone pay you back after. Not only is this easier for the servers but it'll be a good habit to keep as when you meet your bonus, it could still be a great way to gather more points on your cards!

However, this is what you should avoid. Gaming the system or manufactured spending are both easy ways to get your points taken back, potentially even get your accounts closed or blacklisted from getting another sign up bonus. This is essentially putting artificial spend on the card, by buying things such as gift cards to then immediately pay the card off with or by just hitting the bonus and then closing the credit card shortly after getting it.
