Founded more than 110 years ago, IBM is one of the world's oldest computing device manufacturers. In the beginning, the company used to manufacture calculators, but today's calculators are quite different. These are heavy calculating machines up to a few tons in weight and huge in size. Although they manufacture and sell standard office products such as time recorders and punch cards, the company has also been involved in computer and programming language development since the 1950s. The Apollo moon mission, IBM's computer, and software all played important roles back then. Computer Technology Giant dominated the PC market in the 1980s and the mainframe market in the 1990s with an 80 percent market share. Formerly owned by IBM, Lenovo's Thinkpad Laptop lineup held a 22.7 percent market share in the PC market. In the late 1990s, IBM had to withdraw from the PC business after falling behind Compaq, HP, and Dell. In this video, we will explore the reasons why the PC of the once personal computing industry dominated PC is no longer visible.
