First and foremost, if you're watching this mid-year, don't wait for January 1st to start making a change that you want. There's an inherent sense of optimism at the beginning of each year since it psychologically feels like there's a clean slate, but calendars are a human creation - start whenever you damn well please.

As the year comes to a close, I welcome you to reflect on the past year and think about changes you'd like to make in your life. In the video, I explore the main reason why most behavioral and lifestyle goals get abandoned so quickly, and more importantly, share the 5 critical things I think you should do to maximize your chances of success.

How to stick a diet, or how to keep any new year's resolution is something worth exploring because the sense of optimism we feel when we are determined to make a change can be overshadowed by the sense of defeat the moment we slip up. How to stay motivated, how to stay on track, how to keep going when the going gets tough? All natural questions.

After implementing a few key long-term sustained life changes, I've learned that whether it's a New Year's Resolution or a mid-year goal, success starts 1 month before you really get going. Whether it's losing weight, sticking to a diet, getting active, working out regularly, responsible personal finance, or any other change, discipline is overrated. Instead it's a combination of validated desire, coupled with a plan and metrics of success.
