Delta Cross Channel open to boaters this weekend. Here's what to know

Just in time for the first weekend of summer in Northern California, the Bureau of Reclamation on Friday announced the opening of the Delta Cross Channel gates.  The Delta Cross Channel Gates control the diversion of freshwater water from the Sacramento River into the Delta through Snodgrass Slough and into the Mokelumne River.  The opening of the gates, located in Walnut Grove, allows water to move to the headworks of the Central Valley Project's Delta-Mendota and Contra Costa canals, as well as the State Water Project's California Aqueduct, according to the bureau.  The opening also allows boats to pass through from the Sacramento River into the Delta in both directions. The bureau cautions, though, that the gates may close on short notice based on requirements.  KCRA 3's Mike TeSelle reports.
